About HurriLab

HurriLab builds hurricane intelligence that is comprehensive enough for scientists and clear enough for everyone else. We strive for three things: speed, clarity, and quality. The intelligence updates as fast as the storm evolves, the interpretation is easy, and the underlying science is solid.

01 What we do

I started HurriLab because even the best scientists struggle to make sense of all the real-time hurricane data that's out there. Finding the data is hard enough; understanding the strengths and weaknesses of each dataset is harder. Using the data to make decisions with confidence is even harder.

So at HurriLab, we don't serve raw data. We build the analytics layer that distills the data and model outputs into clear, probabilistic intelligence that you can use to answer questions such as:

What's likely, how likely, and how is it changing?

We deliver those layers as data products that plug into wherever you already work, alongside other data you require.

02 Who I am

I'm Wallace Hogsett PhD, founder of HurriLab. I've spent more than 20 years working on hurricanes and high-impact weather risk at NOAA, at a couple of weather-technology startups, and in the insurance industry. But I never had exactly the tools I wanted to use myself, and I could never confidently point my non-meteorologist friends and family toward anything that answered every one of their questions when a storm was coming. HurriLab started as a project building tools for myself to answer these questions.

I build for teams that need robust hurricane analytics to keep operating, and I build it with the same scientific integrity a specialist demands. I designed hurricane analytics in the private sector and led the integration of an AI forecast model at NOAA, and as technology continues to evolve, so will HurriLab. The company is based in Wilmington, NC, and when I'm not working at the office, you'll find me:
